About the Author
The late James Stewart received his M.S. from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. He did research at the University of London and was influenced by the famous mathematician George Polya at Stanford University. If your class uses webassign, just get the online version. Same product, very smaller price tag
As far as calculus texts go, this seems to be one of the best options. I struggle with learning numbers and have bought an insane amount of books to master mathematics; this one offers a clear and concise explanation of calculus concepts. Personally, I think that Stewart or Swokowski have written the best calculus texts.
I rented the textbook from Cengage Learning, Inc. and honestly the book looks brand new. It doesn't look like anyone has even opened the book. I had thought the book was going to be paperback, but I guess I don't really remember seeing anything saying that it was going to be, I just saw the tab on the top next to the hardcover. That is the only downside to this rental because it is a rather large book and I'm on a rather large campus, so I know it won't be fun hauling this book around with my other textbooks.
The pages are in good condition, and it is great for the price. However, loose-leaf is really hard to use. You have to be careful when you try to flip or you might tear it apart.
I used it for my Calculus 2 class and I hear I'll need it for Calculus 3. The condition was perfect for my use during the semester no obvious, tears are damage to the pages. The problems for homework were consistent with some more challenging to encourage a better depth of what was covered in class. I get an essentially new book for the price of renting one.
This rental was great. I compared this one i ordered, with the professors and some of the classmates. Not a problem but, this book contains more math chapters for some reason. However, im not sure if those can be used for the next Calculus course. In the Course i attended, we only went up to 6 chapters.
textbook came quickly. hate the textbook but its required for my class so I don't have much of a choice. would highly recommend buying the study guide and solutions manual
The book is pretty beat up but since I won't be carrying it to and from class it'll do fine for the semester. A little water damage but mainly just a lot of wear and tear that was solved with some tape.
