About the Author
Tom Ellen and Lucy Ivison met at the end of high school and quickly became sweethearts. Though they broke up in college, they remain best friends. Lucy is a librarian at a girls' school in central London, where she gets most of her inspiration. Tom is a journalist and has written for Time Out, Vice, ESPN, Glamour, and many other publications. Their first book, A Totally Awkward Love Story, was partially inspired by their own high school relationship, with Tom writing Sam’s chapters and Lucy writing Hannah’s. Freshmen is their second novel together.

OH MY GOSH you guys! This book was a total sleeper and you do not want to miss it! Such a cute summer kickoff story. I buddy-read this with two other girlfriends who were also feeling burnt out and in need of a reset book. Two of us read primarily horror/paranormal and one reads primarily contemporary but all three of us agree that this book is a LOBSTER for everyone (hehe - inside book joke).The hardest part about reading this book was the actual buddy read I did. None of us wanted to put it down
I loved this sweet, funny teen romance. It had me laughing out loud, and cringing (along with the heroine) in some instances. Well-plotted, with interesting and funny characters. A sweet love story that has some trouble getting started. I really enjoyed the story, the writing, the characters, the humor. I would definitely read more by these authors.
This one felt like real life to me. Meet someone you're interested in..the awkward interactions.. the uncomfortable moments .. and especially the assumptions. The assumptions 'I'm not pretty/handsome, smart, funny, sexy, whatever enough' .. on both sides. If they could see themselves as the other saw them, what a difference it would make. I really enjoyed this read. Had a different tempo / attitude than I'm used to, but thought the story was well written.
It was a light and easy read, but not anything special.
Meh. shallow storyline
This book was quirky and weird and so adorable. I was laughing I was sad I was happy. It was just amazing.
The book was very slow and kinda boring. There wasn't much going on till the very end of the book.
"A Totally Awkward Love Story" is different from a lot of other YA contemporary love stories out there. It's quirky, fun, obnoxious, lovable, and annoying all rolled into one.The story takes place in Britain, so the culture is a bit different than YA that takes place in the US. The book follows Hannah and Sam as they connect and reconnect over and over again in one summer. Screwball situations ensue on their road to togetherness.I feel the story is stronger in the beginning than in the end. The funnier, laugh out loud bits are near the beginning. I felt that as the book neared the middle and end of the story, the more unlikable the characters became. Sam becomes more unlikable than Hannah as he claims he really likes Hannah but continues to make out with other girls. The book did have its cute moments though.I would definitely say that this is not the best book I've read but it was a decent book to read outside on a sunny Spring day. I just didn't love it as much as I hoped I would have. The cover is super cute, though.
